The Billiard Room

Originally Constructed in 1910

Step into a sense of life, wealth and the Taylor family influence in the community during the mid-twentieth century.

The Billiard Room.

A.W. Taylor was the complete business person as an accountant and descendant of one of the leading families of St. Catharines. A billiards aficionado, he set aside a large space for “cue sports” in his new home.

The table was originally a 12’ affair set in a lodge-like setting. Springbank now presents a full 8’ table in traditional claw foot design. The wainscot walls are still faux leather in near-perfect condition and the magnificent lead glass library at the head of the room remains as it was surrounded by leather furniture typical of the time. The renovation saw the addition of better lighting, and a warmer colour of paint for the upper walls and the ceiling. A frame TV surmounts the fireplace.

Historic Beginnings.

Anchored by three massive beams, more than 100 years later, this room was the ONLY room that was fully level (essential to the proper placement and maintenance of a billiards table).

A.W Taylor also added a discreet side door entrance and 1/2 bathroom for the comfort of his guests and business colleagues so that they could come and go without disturbing the rest of the house.
